James C. Goodwin Phoenix, Arizona
Jim Goodwin is an experienced Arizona litigator with a broad-spectrum trial practice dedicated primarily to complex civil litigation. He enjoys representing clients involved in expert intensive cases, as well as the challenge that comes with arguing difficult issues to jurors in an understandable, yet persuasive manner. Jim began his career as a prosecutor, where he was first exposed to the fast-paced environment of trial practice, and where he rose quickly through the ranks. Within two years, he was assigned to prosecute a death-penalty eligible first degree felony murder trial shortly before deciding to transition into civil practice. Over the ensuing decade, Jim has continued to develop the skills and the courtroom presence required of any attorney who is called upon to represent clients in multi-million dollar exposure cases. Medical Malpractice Defense and Professional Licensure Mr. Goodwin concentrates his civil defense practice in the representation of clients involved in all aspects of the health care industry. He has significant experience in the areas of medical malpractice defense (including alleged physician malpractice, nursing malpractice, hospital malpractice, dental malpractice, podiatry malpractice, physical therapy malpractice, chiropractor malpractice, and others), as well as hospital, nursing home, and assisted living facility defense. His medical professional liability experience spans a broad spectrum of family practice, general surgery, oncology, obstetrics/gynecology, radiology, orthopedic surgery, pathology, podiatry, dentistry, anesthesiology, and others. Jim also routinely represents healthcare providers in front of Arizona State licensing Boards, including the Arizona Medical Board, the Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners, the Arizona State Board of Nursing, and the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners. Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility Defense Jim began defending vulnerable adult and elder abuse claims following his participation in the Arizona Supreme Court decision in Estate of McGill v. Albrecht, 203 Ariz. 525, 57 P.3d 384 (2002). This was one of the very first published opinions in Arizona dealing with what has since become a very contentious and thriving area of litigation in Arizona. Product Liability and Construction Defect Mr. Goodwin has experience representing a number of automobile manufacturers in cases at both the local and national levels. He has represented clients in the aviation industry and the construction fields as well.
